Ervin P. Maynard 72 of Turkey Creek Road, Inez, KY; passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Kings’ Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. He was born on December 18, 1938 in Martin County, KY; he was a son of the late Isaac and Bell Hobbs Maynard. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Roy, Conley, William, and Neal Maynard. Ervin was a retired Navy Veteran as well as clerk and treasurer for the Calf Creek United Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife; Irma Hinkle Maynard of Inez, KY as well as his siblings; Robert Maynard of Street, Maryland, Albert Maynard of Port St. Lucie, Fl, Stella Pack of Ashland, KY, Sarah Pack of Louisa, KY, Bonnie Fletcher of Hubert Heights, OH, Sharon Wilson of Grove City, OH, and Teresa Maynard of Inez, KY. He is also survived by a host of church family and friends and all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 1:00pm with Elders Maurice Mills and Eddie Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Hinkle Family Cemetery of Calf Creek, Inez, KY. Military rights will be performed by the Belfry DAV post in Belfry, KY. Visitation will be after 6pm Monday and until time of services on Wednesday at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, KY.

Johnson C. (J.C.) Preece, age 82 of Inez, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Huntington. Born December 6, 1928 in Martin County, he was the son of the late Emmons and Martha Johnson Preece. J.C. is survived by his wife, Myrtle Harless Preece; one son, Terry Preece of Inez; one brother, Boone Grant Preece of Inez; one sister, Louise Haney of Inez; two grandchildren, Christy (Paul) Staten and Tara Preece; and two great grandchildren, Ethan Staten and Mia Preece.

J.C. was a retired coal miner and a veteran of the Korean War. He will be sadly misssed by his family, by his friends, and all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be 2:00PM Monday, August 15, 2011 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Preece Family Cemetery at Inez. Rick Osborne and Paul Crisp will officiate. Friends may visit the funeral home from 3-9 PM Sunday and prior to the service on Monday. Arrangements are by the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.
