Animal Shelter Halts Feline Intake

Effective immediately the Martin County Animal Shelter will not accept cats or kittens… The Martin County Animal Shelter is placing a hold on taking cats and kittens. We have over 80 cats/kittens at the shelter. On most days there is only one person to care for all the dogs and cats. The severe over-crowding has caused an explosion of upper respiratory virus. This has led to kitten deaths and a huge increase in our vet bill. We cannot take any more cats or kittens until we adopt, place with rescue, or find fosters. We are looking for a humane solution to the county’s cat overpopulation problem, but we need help. Stray Hearts is a very small rescue with only a handful of dedicated members. We need reliable volunteers. People willing to give time to the shelter to help care for animals, do repairs, maintenance, cleaning, transporting animals, fundraising and numerous other projects. We also need sponsors to pay the cost of spay/neuter to make it easier to place cats and kittens. James Robert Crum 82, of Inez, Kentucky passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017, at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born in Martin County, Kentucky on November 2, 1934, to the late Flem and Alice Dalton Crum. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six siblings. James is survived by his loving wife, Doris Marie Pemberton Crum of Inez, Kentucky, three daughters, Debby Crum of Inez, Kentucky, Sherri (Glenn) Pack of Louisville, Kentucky and Jackie Crum of Dayton, Ohio and six grandchildren, Lakin Pack, Gabby Robinson, Lauren Pack, Jordan Doyle, Isabella Robinson and Lilly Robinson. He is also survived one sister, Mary Woods of Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, Kentucky on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at 2:00 pm with Bubby Davis officiating. Allen Horn 74, of Louisa, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He was born in Martin County, Kentucky on March 1, 1943, to the late Earl and Ellie Horn. In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by 3 brothers, 7 sisters, one daughter in law, Geraldine Horn and one son in law, Mark Mills Allen is survived by his wife, Dorothy Maynard Horn, 3 sons, James Allen Horn of Louisa, Kentucky, Eddie Joe Horn of Inez, Kentucky and Richard Allen of Louisa,Kentucky, Kentucky, 3 daughters, Jessica Angel Cox, Patty Sue Mills both of Inez, Kentucky and Jeanette Louise Smith of Louisa, Kentucky, along with 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was born Martin County, Kentucky on September 5, 1948, to the late Joseph and Ada Luster Hunt. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five siblings, Lundy Bruce Hunt, James Michael Hunt, Joseph Hunt Jr., Gary Thomas Hunt and Sandra Carol Maynard. James E. BeDilion, 78, of Beauty, Kentucky passed away at home on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Jim was born on August 5, 1938, in Washington, Pennsylvania to the late William Grover and Mildred Boswell BeDilion. Jim proudly served his country as an electronics specialist for the U.S. Navy. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, Jim went on to work for Hewlett Packard and, later IBM. While living in Florida, Jim served his community as a Mason and Jaycee, where he was eventually elected as a national senator. Upon moving to Kentucky, Jim continued his service to others by serving on the local boards of both the Soil Conservation District and Historical Society. Jim is survived by his wife Virginia (Jenny) Brown BeDilion and daughter Dianna BeDilion of Delray Beach, FL.
