Evalina Messer Lackey 72, of Dingess, West Virginia passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, West Virginia. She was born in Dingess, West Virginia on April 28, 1945, to the late Compton Basil and Nancy Kirk Messer. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five siblings, William M. Kirk, Byrd Messer, Grant Messer, Doris Messer Wilson and Louise Messer Irving. Evalina is survived by her husband, Ernest “Bud” Lackey of Dingess, West Virginia, three sons, Ronald Ray (Carla) Vinson Jr. of Dingess, West Virginia, Ernest Ishmael (Cheryl) Lackey of Ashboro, North Carolina and Steve (Kathy) Lackey of Burlington, North Carolina, two daughters, Nicole (Leslie) Dillon of Chapmansville, West Virginia and Sandra Dee Lackey of Appleton, WI along with 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two siblings, Pearl Messer (Jesse) Browning and Wilburn (Brenda) Vance both of Dingess, West Virginia and special family members, Barbara Messer (Carter) Wilson, Kimberly Wilson (Ronnie) May, Kevin (Beth) Wilson, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, Helen Stepp, Cora Evelyn Dillon, Florence (Babe) Lackey and Virginia Dempsey. Evalina was a member of the Neely Branch United Baptist Church, where she was loved dearly. Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Lester Messer 89, of Ferguson Branch Rd., Dunlow, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on August 25, 2017, at home with his wife and family by his side. Born November 1, 1927, in Breeden, West Virginia, he was the son of the late, Bryant Messer and Rhonda Marcum Messer Dillon. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert Messer, Clellen Messer and Montie Messer, one sister, Betty Meade and one son, Kenneth Lyle Messer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Griffin Messer, two sons, Chuck Messer and Paul (Kathy) Messer, one daughter, Eva Messer Foster and a special granddaughter they raised, Lila Spaulding Elms, one brother, Edward Messer and a special nephew, Stanley Messer. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, where he received a Medal of Honor and a purple heart. He was an avid car lover. He was kind and a loving, caring man, who valued every minute of life. He was loved by all, many nieces and nephews with whom he loved. He will be missed by all. Reverend Jack Small, 87, of Lovely, KY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Jack was an ordained Freewill Baptist minister for 44 years, preaching about God’s love and mercy every time he had an opportunity. It was truly his desire that everyone would accept God as their savior and then share the Gospel and seek to save lost souls. He had a great love for God, his family and friends, and the dedicated employees at the Martin County Health Care facility who took great care of him during the last few years as his health began to decline. Jack was born May 5, 1930, to the late Boy and Maudie Hale Small. He graduated from Warfield High School and proudly served in the Army for two years. Jack was employed by Columbia Gas for 30 years until he retired. Upon retirement, he accepted another job with a privately owned gas company and worked until he was 80 years old. Jack is survived by Jean Parsley Small, his wife of 59 years. He is also survived by three children, Kim ( Bruce) Morgan of Naugatuck, WV, William (Maxine) Small of Lovely, and Cathy (George) Anderson of Magnolia, DE.
