Why Martin County Kentucky.com Was Started

I am originally from Martin County and very aware of some of the challenges faced by folks living in my former home town. I see many talented and brilliant folks who seldom have an opportunity to contribute their stories, skills and value to the local society. Martin County can be a very polarized pocket of Appalachia that has a purpose driven hermit like nature. I often find myself asking why Martin County is so lacking in industry beyond the obvious and why so little attention, other than stories of poverty and strife, is paid on the national scale. Why...

Hands Off The Dough…

Am I tired of hearing about all the shenanigans of the Republican “would be” candidates. Can’t they find some with fewer skeletons in their closet? First it was Bachman with her psycho clinic and crazy husband, Romney who doesn’t seem to know where he stands on anything besides his religious preference and now good ole Cain. Herman Cain, until recently, has been the front runner of the Republican pack. A self made pizza guru who touts himself as not a politician. This premier of pies had been fast tracking through the Republican ranks until it would appear he had...

Occupy Wall Street

Original article by: Tracy E. Victers National project director, The 9/12 Generation Project Huffinton Post – See Article  If one were to ask the mainstream media what the goal of Occupy Wall Street was and who the protestors are, most outlets would respond accordingly: they have failed to make specific demands of political, social and economic institutions, they support a wide range of causes and they come from a wide array of socioeconomic backgrounds. The mainstream media keeps asking the Occupy Wall Street protestors what they want from Wall Street and/or the American government only to be confused when...

Martin County Has A Drug Problem………Quit Pulling My Leg!

It seems to me that it’s incredibly evident that Martin County has a large and growing drug problem. From prescription medications to the usual grab bag of illegal substances, it’s so thick you cut it with a knife.  What is getting done about it? It’s like the 10,000 pound gorilla in the room, eventually someone is going to have to deal with it. Is it the lack of jobs, little to no emphasis on bettering oneself or is it just too profitable? Those are just some of the questions that come to my mind. I’m sure there are some folks...

Team Republican….By Golly Yeah!!

President Obama should really send a thank you letter to the slate of wily Republican candidates.  Each of them reminds me of a comic book super hero: Bachmann with her power to cure homosexuality, Romney with his ability to carry multiple wives on his shoulders and a “maybe” Palin who can function without a brain. Sure there are a few others but they’re the extra man on the Star Trek® away team, pointless and soon to expire. Don’t they know that super heroes can only vanquish their toughest foes working as a team? Seems like all the “individuals” would...
