Unclaimed Property in Kentucky

From our archive. This article reflects information available when it was published; dates, services, and contact details may have changed.

Let me start by saying this isn’t a hoax. Unclaimed property is turned over to the state after a certain period of time, usually 3 years. These items include financial assets such as abandoned checking accounts, non-cashed checks, and travelers checks or even cash. There could also be fine jewelry, rare coins etc.

The Kentucky State Treasury wants to return these items to their rightful owners. The Treasurer, Allison Ball is committed to getting the unclaimed property to the residents of Kentucky. They have actually setup a website where you can search your name to see if you have any unclaimed property. It only takes a couple of seconds to check your name. Who knows you could have a fortune waiting for you!
