George W. Goble, son of the late I.D. (Doc) and Bessie Delong Goble passed away September 1, 2011 at the Hospice Center in Huntington from complications of a stroke. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death six brothers, Lenzie Goble, Ira Goble, Cecil Goble, Elzie Goble, Ernest Goble and Nathan Goble; three sisters, Menzie Goble Hill, Sarah Goble Sword and Lou Emma Goble Workman. George was a coal miner and was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, oma Howard Goble; two sons, Pete (Peggy) Goble and George Adam (Jeanetta) Goble; one daughter, Sandy (Ron) Parsley; tow granddaughters, Rhonda Parsley (AJ) Sharpe and Georgette Goble (Jeremy) Preece; one grandson, Jordan Goble; one brother, Russell Goble; two sisters, Cora Crabtree and Fannie Mae Buskirk.

George was a man of great stature. He helped his fellow man in times of hardship and need. He was a very honorable man. He loved hunting and fishing. He had a lot of respect for his family and loved his grandchildren very much. George did for others and did not expect anything in return. He became a Christian in his later years. He would attend services when he could because of his health. He will be sadly missed by his family, by his friends, and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2011 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Goble Family Cemetery at Debord. B. Joe Hill will officiate. Friends may visit the funeral home from 5PM to 10PM Friday and prior to the service on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.

Bertha Block, 84 of Kermit passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Three Rivers Medical Center. Born March 8, 1927 to the late Willie and Rosie Parsley Stanley. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Tolbert Block. Surviving are two sons, Samuel Block of Kermit and Cecil Block of Michigan; one daughter, Bertha Brown of TN; several brothers and sisters; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Golden Springs Freewill Baptist Church with  Ken Allen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery on Stone Coal. Visitation will be after 2 PM Thursday and until time of services on Friday at the church. Arrangements are by the Phelps and Son Funeral Home of Inez.
